31 January Well, since I am awake, I figured I'd write something before I head off to church. Now if you look at the date most of you folks know we are going to eat today. Nothing more enticing to a bunch of baptists than food. I'm thinking its gonna be real busy in them pews. So really, I had to think about what all that food is really supposed to be about. I mean is 5th Sunday some top secret baptist only ritual? Is it something we do because it's in the Bible? Is it something we do because we like to eat? Much to ponder. Well, when I have questions in life, the 1st place I look to for the answers is in my bible. Then when I have questions about what's written I ask God... but hey I'm sure we all do that.... RIGHT! Okay, so here's what my bible says: Romans 14: 1-4 "Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everyhing must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand." WHEW! I don't think Paul was writing about food here. But, if we think of it in terms of our 5th Sunday food. Wow. Everyone who will be sitting at our churches tables this Sunday ain't perfect. But while they are sitting next to us eating their "vegetables" God tells us not to pass judgment on them! God says do not look down on them! Who are you to judge God's servant? And I thought this was going to be about food! I guess I'm going in a whole new direction. You never know what God has in store for you! Let's see what else my bible says: John 21: 15-17 "When they were finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said "Lord, you know all things, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep..." Mighty powerful words. I'm sure you know Jesus wasn't speaking of sheep and lambs! He was speaking of us his sheep because he is our shepherd. We are his sheep, our children, his children, the lambs. Now, I believe he was telling Peter to feed Jesus' flock with his word, so let's think about this a minute. When we gather together in the name of our Lord on Sunday to eat, we invite all. So, if the weak in faith come, we don't look down on them! We FEED them! The Lord has indeed opened my eyes this morning, now I gotta get ready for Sunday school! I'd love your thoughts and comments. I'd love to chat, or just get your view, and your insights. I know I'm not the only one listening in them pews! Until next time: Yours Truly, Sammy S. Warmer DEC 09 Welcome to Views from the Pew. For now you can call me "Sammy the Seat Warmer". I sit in the Pews of DBC and hope to give the best Christian commentary possible. Today I'd like to talk to you about prayer. Pastor Hal and the good deacons of DBC encourage us always to pray. Pray and give thanks, pray for forgiveness, pray for others, pray for guidance.... I could keep going but I won't bore you. I'll just say you should pray and talk to God about everything in your life! Let's see what the Bible says about prayer: Luke 6:28 "...bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you..." 1 Thessalonians 5:17 "...pray continually..." James 5:16 "...Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed..." Mark 11:25 "...And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins..." There is a lot more in the bible about "pray, prays, prayer, prayers, praying" and of course pray itself always makes me think of praise, but if you look at what these few passages say, you will find a lot. Pray continually.... I think that is because there is so much to pray about, that to get it all out there you'd have to pray continually. And of course my dear Mom always told me that if you are busy talking to God, you are too busy for the devil! So much to pray about and so little time don't you think? What can you find in the bible about prayer? Does God give blessings to those who pray to Him? Drop me a line and tell me what your thoughts are on prayer! Email me at
